Chapter Partners with Library for Constitution Week and Indigenous Day

The Chakchiuma Chapter NSDAR has long partnered with the Greenwood-Leflore Public Library to bring history and civic education to our community. This fall, that partnership continued with two meaningful observances.

Constitution Week Book Donation

During Constitution Week (September 17–23), the chapter donated two books on the U.S. Constitution to the library:

  • We the People by Jill Lepore — A history of the U.S. Constitution and the debates that shaped it

  • Echoes of Kings Mountain by Alex Gillespie — A historical work on the Battle of Kings Mountain and its place in the American Revolution

Candy Hony, chapter librarian, accepted the books on behalf of the library. The donation reflects the chapter's ongoing commitment to ensuring that resources on America's founding documents are available to Greenwood readers of all ages.

Indigenous Day & Columbus Day Display

In October, the chapter joined the library in recognizing Indigenous Day alongside Columbus Day. Katheryn Coleman, DAR American Indian Chairman, and Candy Hony created a display case featuring Native American artifacts representing the region's indigenous heritage.

The display, presented on October 12, included a dreamcatcher, a model tipi, dried corn, natural grasses, and a selection of books and educational materials on Native American history and culture.

About Our Library Partnership

The Chakchiuma Chapter has supported the Greenwood-Leflore Public Library for generations — from donating a subscription to the National DAR magazine in the early 20th century, to placing Constitution Week displays and bookmarks, to contributing books on American history and government.

We are proud to continue that tradition of service and education in our community.

The Chakchiuma Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, is dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism in the Greenwood community. Organized December 20, 1911.
